About Us
Izak, who holds a BSc in Agricultural Animal Science from the University of the Free State, took the reins after his father passed away early. His journey into farming wasn’t without challenges, but with the wisdom and experience gained from working with his uncle and sound financial advice from Eloise’s father, Izak expanded his operation from a small inherited farm to what Leeuwbult is today.

The name “Leeuwbult” carries a deep legacy, harking back to Izak’s great-grandfather, who was the president of the Afrikaner Cattle Breeders’ Society.
The farm’s transition from Afrikaner cattle to Bonsmara in 2003 marked a significant turning point, as Izak recognized the breed’s superior adaptability, fertility, and meat quality—traits that align perfectly with the demanding South African conditions.

At Leeuwbult, the focus is not only on maintaining a herd with exceptional genetic qualities but also on ensuring that every animal is robust, fertile, and well-adapted to various environments.
This commitment is reflected in their rigorous testing protocols at the on-site Phase C testing station, where both bulls and heifers undergo extensive evaluations to ensure only the best genetics are passed on.

Leeuwbult Bonsmara is not just about cattle; it’s about continuing a legacy, honoring the past, and innovating for the future. The Cronjé family’s dedication to quality, resilience, and adaptability has firmly established Leeuwbult as one of the premier Bonsmara studs in South Africa, trusted by industry experts and farmers alike.
